About Duarte

I grew up in a household where my mum did the work of two parents, and did it well. I'm a first generation Canadian, and I think this is the greatest country on earth without exception.

I studied Radio Broadcasting at Humber Polytechnic and Professional Communication at Royal Roads University, but only much later in my life. Not only did this feed my obsessive need to connect with others where they stood, but because I know first-hand that most problems can be made better with good communication.

Since then I've worked in Business Development, written music press releases for artists most of you have probably heard of, spent time counselling low income youth, sitting with kids who'd been let down by systems that were supposed to help and protect them. And most recently, I worked as a Constituency Assistant in a Member of Parliament's office, where I was reassured of the importance of government’s role in people’s lives.

I sincerely believe decency leaving politics is a major part of why most people are disengaged. It’s a game of cynicism and posturing, instead of doing the people’s business. I will be honest, I'm not an expert in city planning or traffic engineering or municipal budgets, and I don't think you need me to pretend I am. What I've spent my career learning is how to sit down with people, actually listen to what they know, and connect that knowledge to the people who can act on it.

I am not another politician who thinks he has all the answers, and is unwilling to listen to all sides, but someone who believes the people living here already do. I am someone who's willing to do the work of listening, translating, and following through. With AI coming for the job market, and the housing crisis in full effect, we need leadership that can adapt to changing times, and changing technologies.

This isn't about right vs left; Conservative vs Liberal. This is about right vs wrong.
